“Oooh, isn’t this a luxury!” said party-pooper me as we turned off the light and snuggled into our pillows. It was 11 p.m on Sunday 31st December, and a night at home had seemed the perfect conclusion to our quiet Christmas week. Such a contrast to our normal busy lives… Not that we’d hidden ourselvesContinue reading “Happy New Year! Making Memories”

Not many fathers…
A slightly expanded version of my tribute at Brian’s Thanksgiving service on 20th October ‘Thank heavens ‘, thought I, ‘that I don’t have THAT guy for a home group leader!’ It was the mid-eighties, and my workmate was telling me how he’d discussed a complex situation with his small group leader at church in Dewsbury.Continue reading “Not many fathers…”
Communiquer, c’est bon!
I think this was the complete opposite of a package holiday. Certainly a change rather than a rest! It was a relationship holiday, much of it spent communicating in French. And it incorporated some nice surprises as we stepped out of our comfort zone…
Saturday 6th May 2023 – An Adventure
Did you enjoy the Coronation weekend? The people I’ve spoken to, have had mixed reactions. As for me, I’ve never before appreciated the pageantry of state occasions. But this time was different.
I wanted to share why I found it exciting. I bet you’re sick of debates about the value of the monarchy. So, I wrote a short story instead, with my comments at the end. Hope you like it!

The Confessions of Secret Santa
Our grandson Sam is rapidly growing up! Reading has given him a new independence and a confidence. But it’s been wonderful to see him taking pleasure in giving, as well as receiving, gifts this Christmas.
Neighbours from Hell?
Do you have neighbour problems? I’m struck by how many people do, and I know how unsettling it can be when you don’t feel at peace in your own home.
So, I chose this as the backdrop for a booklet that I’ve just had published. Meet Harry, who believes he has a neighbour from hell. He’s in for a surprise or two!
Who’d be a Grandpa? – A bit of chemistry
Grandchildren can be such fun! They may be tiring to entertain, but it’s so worthwhile. As you help them understand the world, they draw you into a different way of seeing it yourself. And oh! how you have to laugh at yourself!
